Halloween is fast approaching. I am sure that many of us are already thinking of what we will be wearing this coming Halloween. Some moms may also be getting excited for their little kids who will be wearing their cute little Halloween costumes. However, if your kid is through wearing a witch, ghost, or Dracula costume, a candy corn costume would be a great alternative. Since a candy corn is quite a contrast to the more common Halloween costumes like witches, goblins, and other monsters, it can perhaps show the brighter side of Halloween. Your child may even enjoy it more than his other Halloween costumes.
If you have extra funds, you can buy candy corn Halloween costumes for your children online. However, if you are trying to save on costs, you can always create a candy corn costume for your little one. A homemade candy corn costume is really not that difficult to make. Here are some of the things you will need to create your own candy corn Halloween costume: poster board, hot glue gun, measuring tape, white felt, a large piece of orange as well as yellow felt, and a yard of white ribbon. These materials are easy to find and quite cheap, you shouldn’t have any trouble acquiring them.
The first thing you should do is get an accurate measurement of your child, so you can establish the appropriate height and width of the candy corn costume. When you have the appropriate measurements, draw a large triangle on a poster board with the measurements in mind. If you have a large kid, you may need to tape two or three poster boards together, depending on how big your child is. This will now serve as the template for the candy corn Halloween costume. You also have to round out the edges of the triangle to produce the shape of a candy corn.
When you are done drawing the candy corn template for you child’s candy corn costume, the next thing you have to do is cut the candy corn template into three equal pieces. Using the bottom third of the candy corn template, trace it on a piece of yellow felt. Again, depending on the size of the child or the template, you may need to glue a couple of pieces of felt together. This will now serve as the front portion of the costume. For the back portion, just repeat the step using more yellow felt. Keep in mind that this is just the bottom part of the costume, or the bottom third, since you cut the template into three equal sections.
For the middle third portion of your candy corn costume, you will just have to repeat the previous steps, but instead of using yellow felt, you will use the orange felt. For the top third section, the same procedure should be done, but with white felt. I’m sure you are starting to see the pattern by now.
Using your hot glue gun, glue together the bottom, middle, and top portions, then repeat the whole process to make the back of the candy corn Halloween costume. When the front and back portion is done, join them together by using your glue gun or by sewing them together. Just be careful to leave the top third portion open for the arms and head.
With your white ribbon, you can connect the top third portion of the candy corn costume by cutting four pieces of equal length and gluing them on the front and back portion, as well as the left and right side of the top third portion of the costume. These ribbons will then be tied in bows to hold the front and back of the costume together at the shoulder.
Let your little one try on the candy corn costume you made. If it fits her perfectly, then off to the Halloween party you go!
